Kittens lose their soft kitten coat at around 10 months, and of course seasonal changes cause shedding as well. If there is excessive shedding or especially if bald spots appear, there are many different medical reasons for hair loss. If she is picking at one spot, that spot is probably causing her discomfort from either fleas, mites, rashes or other skin disorders, but there may also be an internal problem. If she is picking at her tummy fur, she may have an intestinal issue. Licking or pulling the fur off the stomach and sides is also associated with stress and other emotional issues. Overall fur loss without excessive licking or pulling is an indicator of skin disorders such as ringworm, mange or eczema. Many of these skin conditions are very contagious so if you suspect any of these, keep her away from other animals until she sees a vet. Because there are so many factors to consider, I can't tell you anything definate.

If she is just shedding, brush her regularly to help prevent her caughing up furballs, which is unpleasent for both her and you. A slicker brush will help get rid of excess fur. Most importantly, get her used to grooming now when she is young so she will be willing when she is older. Now is also the time to start trimming her nails and even brushing her teeth (yes, i said brushing her teeth). Cats are as prone to orthodontic problems s humans. This is the biggest problem most adult cats have. She has lost her baby teeth months ago so these are it for the rest of her life. Good luck with your baby!

Don't brush away the evidence before you take the cat for a check up. Maybe take your cat in now instead of later and find out what is going on and then do the daily brushing... Kitty may have something wrong.
