She's losing her fur?

my 12 year old cat is losing her hair on the sides of her back legs and also she has lost weight, but olny on her lower back near her tail...she heavy when you pet her untill you get to the bottom of her back.. does anyone know what might be wrong untill i get her to the vet?

She's losing her fur?

she has mainge. a serious virus thinngy where the animal loses lots of weight dew to the fact that the mites are eating the food and also the flesh. try and get to the vet as soon as possibe. it can be deadly if ignored.

She's losing her fur?

maybe a tumer/or its cancer

There are so many different things that could be happening, that unless she is examined, it would be impossible to say. It would be best to wait to see what the vet has to say. This way, you will know for sure what is going on and not just speculation.

She's losing her fur?

She 12 y.o you have to remember that. My cat, who was 13 when she passed, started losing weight and having trouble jumping up on the counter to eat. She spent most of her time hiding from the other cats untill she did pass a week later. We had two other cats who had feline lekumia and they started losing hair around their neck and kept scratching. She's an old kitty and might be getting ready to pass soon. Just take her to the vet and see what they say. She might also just be really stressed and is losing her hair as a result or it. Love on her all you can and hope it's just stress.

There is obviously something irritating her back there that you need to get to the bottom of. It could be fleas, now before you say it isn't you don't always see fleas and you might only see dust like looking stuff through the base end of the tail should you run your finger the opposite way to the fur and have a look. I would defiantly start there. Now there are flea products and there are fleas products.

The best one is the ones vet or pet shop have, they are drops that go on the back of the neck and take around 24-48 hours to become effective and will last a month on your cat. Some vets will sell the month separately so it is not as expensive.

In Australia the best ones are Frontline, revolution, advantage.

Honestly if it is fleas you will waste your money on anything else. Keep you cat on flea prevention all the time.

Also there really could be something else going on with your cat and alopecia (losing of fur), is not normal so really i would start with at least the flea prevention should you not be able to get to a vet very soon, and then i would get the cat to the vet.

Even if you cat has a flea allergy it may need medication to help relieve the itching until the product has time to work.

Animal do things to let you know things are not right with them, please do not let the problem manifest you could end up with a bigger problem on your hands

She's losing her fur?

My dog has the same thing she most likely has allergies my dog did and they gave her medicine and she is cured. That what you expect. I think she will be fine she migght be allergic to something in your house or outside. Good luck hope nothing is wrong with her.

She's losing her fur?

I'm not sure why she would be losing weight back there, but could it just seem that way because of the lack of hair? It sounds like she is irritated or itchy back there.

I would take her to the vet soon to get it checked out. It is probably something minor, but irritating to her.

12 is not old for a cat.

She's losing her fur?

You better just take her to the vet instead of asking here. If something is wrong with her you need to get her treated fast. Hope she gets better.

She's losing her fur?

All you are going to get is speculations here. Please don't do that to your self . Good luck at the vet .

She's losing her fur?

she is probably too heavy for her age and her body is reacting tot he excess weight by shedding hair.
