Am I loosing my hair?

My hair used to be very thick and nice. All of a sudden about 10 or 15 strands are coming out of my head every day. The front of my head doesn't look as full as it used to, and it's getting worse. Is it because I am using a clothes iron to straighten my hair? I started putting that Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine in my hair before I use an iron, but I don't know if that protects it. Please tell me if I am losing my hair, and what I can do to stop it. Oh, and another method to have my hair straight. Thanks in advance. :S

Use a hair iron to straighten your hair. You can get one a Walmart for about 15 $$$. At one point i was losing a lot of hair and asked my stylist about it. She said that a person loses up to 100 hairs a day. That it is normal and if your hair is longer it will be more noticable.

What you need to do is stop ironing it with a clothes iron. The heat is burning your hair. All you need is to buy a flat iron that is ceramic. Don't put it so high either cause is will fry your hair.

Okay, yeah, the iron thing is a little jacked up. You should invest in a steam straightener - I can't remember the name, but I saw one advertised on an infomercial that looked really really good. If I didn't have straight hair already, I'd buy one myself.

Secondly, it is natural to go through phases of hair growth and loss. But all hair goes through three distinct growth phases:

1) Active growth phase (called the anagen phase), which lasts up to several years. At any given time, the majority (85%) of our body hair is in this phase.

2) Regressive phase (catagen phase), which lasts about two weeks, during which the hair stops growing but is not yet shed. About 3 - 4% of our body hair is in this phase at any given time.

3) Resting phase (telogen phase), which lasts 5 - 6 weeks, at the end of which the hair falls out and a new hair begins to form. Approximately 10-13% of our body hair is in this phase at any one time.

So it's normal that you are shedding hair. And if you are seeing 10 - 15 strands, that means probably 70 or so are actually falling out, you're just not seeing them all. 10 - 15 is a very low number. Don't worry about it until you are getting handfuls coming out in clumps, or your drains are completely clogged ALL the time with mounds of hair.

Stress and other factors can also exacerbate hair loss, so stop worrying about it, definitely stop ironing it, go buy a steam straightener, and relax!

It is normal to lose about 100 strands a day. But really, a clothes iron to straighten your hair can not be good. It is probably just breaking off from frying it.There are some new blow dryers out that have a comb on them especially for that. Give one a try.

naturally we all loose around 80 hairs a day stop useing a clothes iron and use a ceramic straightener
